Late starter!
In Schiller's words: "Early practice makes perfect." Simon Gietl has shown us that there is also another way. As an 18-years-old boy he discovered relatively late his love for climbing – today the South Tyrolean mountain guide is one of the best athletes in the world of climbing. Right from the beginning he faced the alpine challenges: The famous Matterhorn, Badile and the North Face of the Eiger which he scaled within six days. For all northern walls of the Three Peaks he needed just 17 hours. In November 2009 he achieved with his team-mate Roger Schäli the summit of Cerro Fitz Roy in Patagonia. In September 2012 the two athletes of the SALEWA alpineXtrem team reached the summit of the Arwa Spire in the Himalayas.
